Get to know Gabriela (a.k.a. “G”), Lovin’ Spoonfuls’ Accounting & Administrative Coordinator.
How long have you been in your current role?
I have been in my current role as Accounting and Administrative Coordinator for four years now!
What do you do in your job? How does it help Lovin’ Spoonfuls?
My role has definitely evolved during my time here at LS, but one thing has stayed the same: I wear many hats, and I’m not mad about it! Besides the day-to-day accounting, I also help with ordering office supplies, work closely with Development [team] to ensure accurate donor information, assist Operations with translations, and help anyone in between who may need some help!
What’s the most gratifying part of your job?
Being a part of a team that not only puts 100% effort into our work but also believes 100% in the mission has been so amazing! Although we all have our different areas of focus, coming together with one common goal is the most gratifying to me.
Tell us about one partner you met this year – vendor or non-profit – that inspired you. How come?
Unfortunately, with the pandemic, it has been a while since I was out on the road, but I can say that when I check in by phone with partners it’s always inspiring to hear about how they have been able to adapt their operations with the pandemic. One specific adaptation that comes to mind: the drive-thru pantries. Not only have I heard feedback that it’s been super efficient, but it also keeps the line (or car line) moving steadily!
If you weren’t an Accounting & Administrative Coordinator, what would you be doing instead?
I think something in Human Resources, specifically employee advocacy.
What’s your favorite way to lower your own food waste?
I used to buy a ton of vegetables without any real plan on when or how I would incorporate them into my meals. Meal planning has helped me buy what my household will consume!
Tell us one little known fact about you.
I’m “allergic to the cold.” The medical term for it is cold urticaria. I break out in hives and swell up pretty bad. No one believes me until they see it happen! My great-grandpa, my grandpa, my father, and my son all experienced this!
