We are proud to share that we rescued and distributed more than 3.6 million pounds of fresh, healthy food in 2018. That’s over 2.9 million meals we kept out of landfills and placed in the hands of families who need it most.
Our passionate team of Food Rescue Coordinators collectively rescue and distribute more than 80,000 pounds of food each week, reaching over 30,000 children, women, men, and seniors who don’t have adequate access to nutrition. Across our routes in Greater Boston, MetroWest, and Hampden County, we’ve created a network of partners that includes over 235 vendors and beneficiaries, allowing us to feed veterans, recovering addicts, and folks facing the all-too-common struggle of feeding themselves while keeping up with the rising cost of living.
We are always learning more about the impact of our work. Our model is designed to create efficiency and remove barriers that often keep systems from working optimally. Our waiting list continues to grow, with vendors wanting to participate and upcycle their resources, and beneficiaries who desperately need our services. We remain committed to bridging the ever growing gap between abundance and need.
Throughout 2019, we scaled our operations and our team to meet this ever-growing need. In July we launched a new route in Springfield and the surrounding communities. We are grateful to the state legislators and private foundations who have made this possible!
We are in an exciting place at Lovin’ Spoonfuls: new team members, new partners, and new goals inspire us to continue refining and improving our systems for better outcomes and a broader range of service. Looking ahead there is much to be done; more ground to cover, more food to rescue, and more people to feed.
Our donors and supporters critical to our success, and we thank you for your role in helping us keep our trucks on the road, and our mission moving forward.
