American Lamb Jam 2011 happened on February 20 at the Charles Hotel in Harvard Square. Hosted by the American Lamb Board and BostonChefs.com, Lamb Jam featured Boston’s best chefs and their creative presentations of lamb. Award winners included Chef Jim Solomon of The Fireplace for his Braised Lamb Shank and Chef Will Gilson for his Lamb Sausage Ssam dish. Part of the proceeds from the event went to Lovin’ Spoonfuls. On February 8, Board member Joanne Chang graciously hosted Lovin’ Spoonfuls at her Flour Bakery in Fort Point Channel for the OMG Red Velvet! event, given by Boston bloggers Elizabeth Ginsberg and Christine Liu. The fundraiser featured some of the best chefs and sweetsmakers in Boston including the amazing bakers at Flour, The Chocolate Tarte, Hungry Mother, Poe’s Kitchen, SoCo Creamery, Sportello, Susu Bakery, Sweet Cupcakes, Union Bar + Grille, and Will Gilson. Their red velvet creations were enjoyed by all and Lovin’ Spoonfuls raised about $3k—a pretty sweet outcome! Thanks to all the chefs involved and to everyone who attended the event!
On February 6, Lovin’ Spoonfuls was presented with a special commendation from the Massachusetts State Senate as well as a Social Activism Award from Brookline PAX. It was an honor to be recognized in our hometown, and we are so proud to serve our community!
On December 21st, Lovin’ Spoonfuls was honored by the Brookline Department of Health with the 2010 Herb Carlin Community Health Award. As a Brookline based organization, it’s especially meaningful to be of service in, and to, our hometown.
Barnes & Noble turned over their gift-wrapping station to ‘Spoonfuls the week before Christmas! With a slew of awesome volunteers, we wrapped gifts for customers from all over Copley Place and The Prudential Center – folks were incredibly generous with holiday spirit (despite our less than perfect wrapping) and we were able to raise almost $1000 from our day at the PRU! Our heartfelt thanks to Patrick, Deb, Heidi, Kimberly, Rennie, John, Christopher and Gina for all their help!
On December 3rd, The Hotel Marlow hosted the “Duck, Duck Goose’ Fundraiser for Lovin’ Spoonfuls…Chef Jay Silva of Bambara restaurant helmed the event, cooking alongside of Stella’s Evan Deluty, KO Prime’s Josh Buehler, Dante / Il Casale chef Dante DiMagistris, Tremont 647 (and Hell’s Kitchen contestant Andy Husbands), Will Gilson of Garden at The Cellar, Marc Orfaly of Pigalle and others to help raise funds for ‘Spoonfuls. Our thanks to all involved, including All Heart Public Relations, Kimpton Hotels and Hudson Valley Fois Gras.
Over the holidays Lovin’ Spoonfuls was proud to help hungry folks in Boston…our friends at Legal Sea Foods’ “C” Bar, and Eastern Standard Kitchen provided fully cooked Thanksgiving meals complete with all the trimmings for our friends at RESPOND Inc (providers of shelter for domestic violence survivors), and to The Boston Rescue Mission. ‘Spoonfuls also came to BRM’s ‘rescue’ as they reached out to us needing frozen turkeys. Our friends at Eastern Standard, Island Creek Oyster Bar, Lineage and Kinneally Meats helped us make sure the Mission had enough birds to hand out to hungry folks at their annual Day of Thanks. Executive Director Ashley Stanley was also invited to give out the turkeys along Governor Deval Patrick:
On November 3rd, Robinson & Cole in Boston hosted an evening with Joanne Chang at the Union Club. Lovin’ Spoonfuls was lucky enough to be the charity of choice for this networking event – guests received copies of Joanne’s new cookbook with a donation to ‘Spoonfuls! Joanne graciously signed books, and participated in a warm & funny dialogue about women in business. Over $4000 was raised for ‘Spoonfuls! Our thanks to Robinson & Cole and Joanne for being such wonderful supporters of our mission!
The very next day, OCTOBER 16th was WORLD HUNGER DAY! To celebrate, we teamed up with WHOLE FOODS in Legacy Place for our first ever PRODUCE DRIVE! It was an awesome day, people were so willing to participate! As we were weighing the day’s ‘haul’, the scale broke!! Last count was over 2500 lbs of carrots, potatoes, squash, apples, onions, peppers and other great foodstuffs from WF. Thanks to all who participated!! AND, we were able to raffle off gift certificates to awesome restaurants who support Lovin’ Spoonfuls!! Huge thanks to Lineage, Eastern Standard, Legal Sea Foods, Aquitaine, Gaslight Brasserie, Union Bar & Grille, Qdoba, b.good and of course, Whole Foods Legacy Place. The surprise of the day came when Ashley was presented with a commendation from the House of Representatives. Paul McMurtry, the House Rep. from Dedham was on hand to recognize Lovin’ Spoonfuls! All in all, it was such a fun day -we had great volunteers, and Whole Foods did a great job letting people know how they can help us feed hungry folks! Check it out!

It’s been a busy Fall here at ‘Spoonfuls! On October 15th, MYERS+CHANG restaurant hosted our official launch event…we raised $30k to kick off our capital fundraising campaign!! Our gracious hosts Christopher Myers & Joanne Chang were joined by Ming Tsai (fresh from The Next Iron Chef), the fellas from Island Creek Oysters (while Island Creek Oyster Bar was opening that same night!!), Jamie Bissonette (Toro, Coppa) and helped make the evening an unbelievable moment for Lovin’ Spoonfuls. Mayor Thomas Menino also attended, and said that ‘Spoonfuls was a “welcome addition to the city of Boston”. Wow! We’re proud to serve this great city!
The evening was filled with amazing food, fantastic enthusiasm for the Lovin’ Spoonfuls’ mission-and among the silent auction items up for grabs was a private pastry lesson with Joanne Chang, who just released the most popular baking book on the shelves right now..straight from her beloved bakery FLOUR. Among the other things being auctioned off was an OysterFarm tour of Duxbury Bay from Island Creek Oysters, Dim Sum for 10 people WITH Christopher & Joanne, and a Four-Course Chef’s tasting WITH paired wines from Ming Tsai at Blue Ginger. What a night!
